CLAYTON, N.C. -

Some Johnston County teenagers channeled their inner Broadway Thursday night.

The Clayton Youth Theater held a full dress rehearsal for its performance of Elton John and Tim Rice’s “Aida.”

Dozens of area middle and high schoolers have been putting in hours of practice in advance of opening day Friday.

The theater’s director and founder said there has been a lot of interest in the production in the past few months.

“We’re just excited that here in Clayton we have a thriving arts community and a program people are supporting,” said Nikki Dyke, Clayton Youth Theater director.

The cast will perform live shows over the next two weekends with tickets costing $10.
