Police investigating theft that happened in hospital waiting room

Police say this man is the suspect in the theft. Police say this man is the suspect in the theft.

Sitting in a hospital waiting room can be stressful enough, but for one woman, the worry was compounded when someone stole from her.

Kimberly can't help but feel sad when looking at the man's photo, which was captured by a surveillance camera.

"For people to take advantage of you in that situation is very upsetting," she said.

She met the man at Skyline Medical Center and thought she had made a friend. Her brother and sister-in-law had been in a terrible motorcycle crash. She said he told her that his brother had suffered a stroke.

"He was there by himself waiting for his family to get there the next morning," she said.

Or at least that's what the man said.

After they fell asleep, she says surveillance video caught him stealing from her.

"He got up out of his chair, walked over, leaned between the two of us, took my purse, took the money out of it, put my purse back where he found it and walked out the door," Kimberly said.

"I do believe he overhead a conversation my brother and I had about money," Kimberly added.

It's unknown if the man did have a relative in the hospital.

"I think maybe he was homeless and he was going from place to place, and he stopped in there in the waiting room to catch up on some sleep," she said.

She doesn't expect to get her money back and isn't even mad at the man.

"I have to forgive him. You can't live with hate in your heart," Kimberly said.

However, she does want to warn others.

"If he needed money for family or whatever, I would have been happy to have given it to him. Someone else who may be sitting in a hospital, in a waiting room, with a loved one or waiting to hear about a loved one, I don't want them to be taken advantage of as I was," Kimberly said.

The crime happened on June 15 between 6 and 8 a.m. If you know who the man in the photograph is, give police a call.
