NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police found a man dead on Briley Parkway after a motorcycle crash early Wednesday.

The wreck happened just after midnight in the eastbound lanes near Whites Creek Pike.

Police identified the victim as Carlos Pichardo-Morelos, 28, of Antioch.

Police said Pichardo-Morelos was riding a Suzuki GSXR east on Briley Parkway when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and struck a guard rail. Pichardo-Morelos was wearing a helmet.

A short time later, the driver of an eastbound car, Ronald Williams, 20, swerved to miss the motorcycle, which was lying in the middle of the roadway, causing him to strike the inside retainer wall.

Williams, of Nashville, told police he did not see the motorcycle wreck. He was not injured.

Police are trying to figure out if the motorcycle was involved in an illegal street race.

"Someone called in advising that there were a group of motorcycles on County Hospital Road, which is approximately two miles west of this location, and that they had been drag racing up and down County Hospital Road," said Metro Police Lt. Mike Gilliland.
