NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Metro police officer is recovering after nearly being run over by a driver overnight in south Nashville.

It happened in the drive-thru of the Krispy Kreme on Thompson Lane.

Police said Randy Lee Jones was driving drunk. He allegedly had his headlights turned off, ran a red light and wouldn't stop for the officer.

When Jones turned into the Krispy Kreme, the officer followed him.

Police said Jones drove right at the officer when he got out of his patrol car.

The officer cut his hand when it got caught on the vehicle's side mirror.
