NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Tennessee Department of Health says there are now 12 confirmed cases of chikungunya in the state.

Officials say all of the people in these cases had traveled to the Caribbean and contracted it there.

The first confirmed case of chikungunya in Tennessee was reported in June when a Madison County resident tested positive for the virus.

The mosquito-borne illness is not deadly but causes fever, vomiting, nausea, rashes, muscle pain and joint pain.
