Bulger's Beat: Bald eagle released in Nashville

Posted: Updated:

Forty years ago, bald eagles were endangered and on the brink of extinction. Now, Tennessee hatches more than any state in the country, thanks to a man who committed his life to saving this important piece of America.

On Tuesday morning, a bald eagle named Hatcher's Legacy was released at Bell's Bend Outdoor Center.

The eagle's name honors Tennessee wildlife's best friend Bob Hatcher and his life dedicated to bringing the American symbol back from the brink of extinction.

"You're very blessed today that people like Bob Hatcher put a life's work into bringing back eagles to Tennessee and America," said Al Cecere with the American Eagle Association.

After a ceremony, Hatcher's Legacy soared through the air for the first time in his 3-month-old life.

Bob Hatcher is ill and was unable to attend Tuesday's eagle release celebration.
