Bryant wins GOP bid for Wake DA; Walker takes NC 6th primary

John Walter Bryant won the Republican nomination for Wake County District Attorney in a primary election Tuesday night.

Bryant defeated Jeff Cruden, 5,863 to 3,354. Bryant will face Democrat Lorrin Freeman in November.

In the race for the Republican nomination for 6th Congressional District (which includes Person, Orange, Granville) , Mark Walker defeated Phil Berger Jr. Walker had 18,871 and Berger 12,550.

Walker will run run against Democrat Laura Fjeld, a former vice president with the UNC system who lives in Orange County, Nov. 4.

Walker is a Greensboro Baptist minister who had a bitter fight with Berger. Berger's campaign called Walker dishonest he wrongly accused Berger of being reprimanded by the state Supreme Court for an ethics violation. 

In the Democratic race for Orange County Sheriff, Charles Blackwood defeated David Caldwell Jr. 4,193 to 3,653. Blackwood will run unopposed in November

In State House District 23, which covers Edgecombe County, Shelly Willingham defeated R.B. “Rusty” Holderness for the Democratic nomination 2,668 to 2,471.
