NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A child was rescued from a pool at the Napier Neighborhood Community Center on Tuesday.

According to a statement from Metro Parks, a 7-year-old boy with special needs was pulled from the shallow end of the pool.

Officials said two lifeguards were in chairs, one lifeguard was on deck and a counselor was in the pool at the time of the incident.

When a lifeguard noticed the child was nearing the bottom of the pool, the counselor and the lifeguard pulled the child out of the water and onto the deck.

According to Metro Parks, the child coughed and threw up. He was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Officials said the child and his two sisters are regular participants in Metro Parks' summer program.

Metro Parks spokeswoman Jackie Jones said the boy likely could not swim.

"Children who attend or programs may or may not be able to swim," Jones wrote in an email. "We had adequate staff and life guards in place."
