A large natural gas leak shut down Buena Vista Pike in North Nashville early Sunday.
When emergency crews arrived at about 7 a.m., a plume of vapor was shooting 20 to 25 feet in the air.
Metro police cordoned off a large area while workers assessed the situation and made repairs.
The leak was stopped at about 8 a.m. No one was hurt.
Channel 4 News has learned that a Piedmont Natural Gas crew was charging the gas line when a release valve activated.
According to one resident, a new gas line was recently installed in the area.
