NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Vanderbilt's LifeFlight celebrated a major milestone Saturday: 30 years of service to the Midstate.

Vanderbilt held a special ceremony Saturday to mark the occasion.

LifeFlight started 30 years ago with a single helicopter. The fleet has since expanded to five staffed helicopter bases in the Midstate, an airplane and four ground ambulances.

Four patients whose lives were saved by LifeFlight crews were honored and reunited with their lifesavers.

"I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for what LifeFlight did for me," said Andrew Middleton. "We are eternally grateful. These guys are angels."

Also honored at Saturday's celebration was flight nurse Tom Grubbs, who is the longest serving staff member.

Grubbs started with LifeFlight just six months after the program began.
