Brides Against Breast Cancer hosting wedding dress sale in Nashville

Posted: Updated:

Finding that perfect dress for the big day can be a lot of work, but this weekend might be the easy answer for Nashville brides on the hunt.

Brides Against Breast Cancer is coming to downtown Nashville on Sunday, and all of the money goes to support cancer patients and their families.

Many of the gowns are new and are donated from designers at boutiques. Shoppers can get them anywhere from 25 to 85 percent off.

Jelly Malenga started volunteering for the organization after her aunt died from breast cancer.

"That was very difficult because we were really close," Malenga said.

She says everyone celebrates when someone buys a dress.

"We hug and we cheer and when someone says yes to the dress, we ring a bell, we scream, we cry. Strangers become friends. I've literally had people find me on social media and say, 'You helped me find my dress, come to my wedding,'" Malenga said.

Brides can also donate the gowns they've already worn to the cause.

"If anyone out there has already said, 'I do,' we'd love for them to come out and donate and we'll be happy to offer them a tax write-off," said Amy Overbay with Brides Against Breast Cancer.

Dresses run anywhere from $99 to $8,000. The average price is about $600. A layaway program is available.

"People should come buy a dress because it's basically a celebration of life," Malenga said.

The Brides Against Breast Cancer event runs on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Sheraton on Union Street. VIP admission is $25 and general admission is $5.
