NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Vanderbilt baseball team got a hero's welcome on Thursday as they brought home the national title from the College World Series.

Fans lined up to welcome the national champions back home from Omaha.

"It's emotional just to come in here and see people that would just come out to watch the kids. It's just really nice. I appreciate it a lot," Coach Tim Corbin said.

For the first time in the school's men's sports history, they're the best team in the nation, and fans are excited.

"I was a Vandy fan when Vandy wasn't cool. It's been a long time - football, baseball - just tickled to death to be here," said Donald Gann, who was there to greet the team.

"I'm proud of them. They worked hard, they deserve it, and we're proud. Nashville's proud of them," said fan Kathy Williams.

The festivities continued on Thursday night with a celebration at the Vanderbilt campus. Hundreds of fans got to meet the team, get autographs and celebrate the victory.
