Court filing accuses woman of buying drinks for Vandy athletes

Posted: Updated:

An attorney for one of the Vanderbilt rape suspects now says someone bought the victim and the suspect drinks the night the incident happened.

In a new court filing, attorneys for former football player Brandon Vandenburg say a Florida woman named Angela Gentry always bought drinks for Vanderbilt athletes at the Tin Roof bar.

This could be important because prosecutors have said all along that the victim had too much to drink and was unconscious on the night she was allegedly raped and assaulted by four Vanderbilt football players last summer.

Since Vandenburg was 19 years old when the incident happened, his attorneys say police should have investigated more closely to see who was providing the alcohol that night.

Channel 4 could not reach Gentry on Monday, but she told The Tennessean that she doesn't know Vandenburg or the victim. She said she may have paid for drinks for friends who are football players but denied regularly buying for Vanderbilt athletes.
