First Lady Ana Garcia Hernandez of Honduras will visit Nogales next week according to Tony Banegas, Consul of Honduras to Arizona.
Details of Hernandez' trip are still being worked out, says Banegas, but part of her visit is expected to include a tour of the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol detention facility.
That facility in Nogales is housing hundreds of unaccompanied immigrant children, many of whom are from Honduras.
Banegas tells CBS5 that the numbers change daily, but as of Thursday afternoon 353 of the children housed in Nogales hail from Honduras.
At one point the facility was nearing its capacity of 1,400, Banegas said, but now the number has dropped below 1,000. He said 140 additional children were expected both today and tomorrow. He added that 276 children had been flown to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where Health and Human Services has established a temporary facility to cope with the recent surge of immigrants into the U.S.
Banegas also tells CBS5 the First Lady of Guatemala, Rosa Leal de Perez is scheduled to visit the United States the first week of July and also plans to tour the facility in Nogales.
