Case against Murfreesboro mosque cemetery thrown out

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

The fight over a controversial cemetery at the Murfreesboro mosque appears to be over. A judge on Thursday threw out the case against building a cemetery there.

The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro wants to build a burial ground on its property, but opponents claimed the cemetery could have a negative impact on the local environment.

When soil tests proved that wasn't true, the cemetery was approved.

Opponents say they're disappointed by the judge's decision, but they were expecting it.

A few restrictions were placed on the burial ground. There can only be 1,500 graves, and the markers can't be more than a foot tall.
