A Nashville man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck belonging to a tree cutting business Thursday afternoon in Bellevue.

The wreck happened about 12:25 p.m. near the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Highway 70 South.

Metro police said 64-year-old William Schmidt was riding his 2007 Harley Davidson east on Highway 70 when the driver of truck, which was pulling a 19-foot utility trailer, turned into the motorcycle's path.

The motorcycle struck the trailer, ejecting Schmidt, who died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck, Sabino Ajualip-Rosales, 35, told officers that he thought he had enough time to clear the street.

Ajualip-Rosales does not have a driver's license, police said, and he was charged with driving without a license and failure to exercise due care.

The owner of the tree cutting business, Raul Villeda Cruz, 32, told police he knew Ajualip-Rosales didn't have a license but allowed him to drive anyway.

Cruz was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate his pickup truck.

Police are still investigating.
