SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has kicked off this year's Arizona-Mexico Commission Plenary Session.

The annual event is hailed as an important forum for promoting international collaboration with elected officials and business leaders from both Arizona and Sonora. Brewer works with Sonora, Mexico Gov. Guillermo Padres Elias to host the event in Scottsdale. They hope to talk about opportunities for economic advancement along Arizona's border region.

Nearly 400 people will attend the two-day event at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn in Scottsdale, Arizona. They will promote business and talk about state policy to enhance the economy and quality of life in the Arizona and Sonora region. During this year's session, both states will look at both States' progress on cross-border agreements and recommendations from the bi-national committees.

This will be Governor Brewer's last AMC Plenary as Governor of Arizona.
