AIKEN, SC (WFXG) -

A 26-year-old man died in a crash on Silver Bluff Road at Woodside Plantation Drive early Thursday morning, according to the Aiken County Coroner's Office.

Gerald Quattlebaum Jr. was driving south on Silver Bluff Road when he lost control of his car and hit an embankment around 5:28 a.m., Chief Deputy Coroner Darryl Ables said. Quattlebaum was ejected from the car.

Officers were called to the wreck around 7:15 a.m. and temporarily shut down Silver Bluff Road between Hartwell Drive and Savannah Drive, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety. Silver Bluff Road re-opened around 8:20 a.m.

Quattlebaum was pronounced dead at the scene, Ables said. A toxicology report is pending.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash. It's the ninth fatal crash in Aiken County this year.
