The building at 10 Parker St. in Indian Orchard will be demolished for about $78,000.
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -
The long blighted building at 10 Parker St. on the corner of Main Street in Indian Orchard will be demolished for a total cost of about $78,000.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Springfield housing officials will officially make the announcement on Thursday at 2:15 p.m.
"This demolition of this building is a priority of the residents of Indian Orchard and is another part of the concentrated efforts to eliminate blight in our neighborhoods," Sarno said.
The structure is a city-owned, tax-foreclosed building that has been an eyesore in the Indian Orchard neighborhood for years, according to Jim Leydon, communications director for the office of Mayor Sarno.
The 6,300-square-foot multifamily building was constructed in 1908.
Asbestos abatement was completed by AccuTech Insulation & Contracting, Inc., of Ludlow. Demolition will be completed by Arment Trucking, Inc., of Springfield, according to Leydon.
Cardno/ATC of West Springfield has been on site providing environmental oversight of the project, he said.
The total cost of asbestos abatement and demolition will be $78,101, Leydon said.
