Predators promote Vanderklok to goaltending coach

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Nashville Predators have promoted Ben Vanderklok to goaltending coach after he worked as the assistant coach at that position for the past five seasons.

General manager David Poile announced the move Thursday, saying Vanderklok learned from the best in Mitch Korn. Poile thanked Korn for his work for the franchise the past 16 years.

Vanderklok, a native of Welland, Ontario, has worked with Nashville's goalies from the NHL level down through the team's affiliates in the American Hockey League and ECHL. That includes Marek Mazanec who became the youngest goalie in franchise history to notch a shutout Nov. 19 at Detroit.

Poile says Vanderklok's relationship with goalies Pekka Rinne and backup Carter Hutton will make the transition seamless.
