A Brentwood woman is spending her fifth night at Vanderbilt Hospital after a dog bit her on her hand Thursday night.
Brooke Austin was walking with her son when they saw a corgi in the middle of a busy road. They tried to get the dog to safety, and they did. But when they tried to hold the dog so someone could put a leash on it, the dog bit, first the boy, then Austin.
The dog ran off, but Austin's problems were just beginning. The bite became infected and forced Austin's husband to take her to the ER. Two surgeries later and with more treatments to come, now the focus shifts toward finding the dog.
Unless the owner of the dog comes forward, Austin will likely have to have dozens of painful rabies shots over the next three weeks. The family is turning to Facebook and is using an email program to help get the word out.
