SPRINGFIELD, TN (WSMV) -

A Springfield man is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a minor over the internet.

The Robertson County Sheriff's Office says the investigation into 25-year-old Eric Smith began in January after a 2013 Massachusetts State Police investigation alleged Smith had inappropriate sexual contact with a 12-year-old.

Police say Smith used several social media websites to contact the victim.

Smith was arrested on Friday and is charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor by electronic means.

He was booked into the Robertson County Detention Facility on a $10,000 bond. Smith's first court appearance is on Wednesday at 9 a.m.

The sheriff's office says they're working to find out if there are more victims in this case.

Anyone with information relating to Smith and this case is asked to call the Robertson County Sheriff's Office at (615) 384-7971.
