Dougherty High's Kenneth Johnson Jr. announced his decision to accept a scholarship offer from Valdosta State early Friday.
Johnson Jr. wasn't able to play football this season because of a hamstring tear he suffered last spring playing football. He earned the offer during a workout with head coach David Dean last week.
"I had to put it all out because I really wanted this," Johnson Jr. said. "I needed it, especially with the injury I had."
He will be competing for playing time at defensive back. He's happy to have the chance to do it not too far from home, in front of his family.
"I know my mother and my father going to be there," Johnson Jr. said. "Probably every game in the stands because they were there at every game since 2nd grade."
Johnson Jr. is the 4th player to accept a football scholarship from Dougherty High this season.
