RALEIGH: 20 bands to play Raleigh July 4 celebration - WSMV Channel 4

20 bands, including Toubab Krewe, to play Raleigh July 4 celebration

Posted: Updated:

Raleigh's Independence Day celebration will be an all-day event with music from the first of 20 bands hitting the stage at noon and fireworks going off at 9:30 p.m.

While the celebration gets started at noon on July 4, the first of several summer-themed eating contests -- a watermelon seed-spitting contest -- will begin at 1 p.m. at Martin and Fayetteville streets just as Slinger Francisco takes the stage on Morgan Street.

Events including GOUGE Wrestling, a hot dog eating contest, an ice cream eating contest, face painting and art sales will continue throughout the day, as well as 20 bangs playing across three stages in downtown Raleigh.

There will also be a beer and tasting tent at West Hargett and Fayetteville streets offering more than 25 microbrews and wines.

And at 9:30 p.m., the fireworks show will blast off from the parking lot bounded by South, Wilmington, Lenoir and Salisbury streets directly across from the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

Parking will be available in deck for $5.
