Two Bama Softball Players Earn All-America Honors

From UA Sports Information:

Sophomore outfielder Haylie McCleney and senior pitcher Jaclyn Traina have both been named First Team NFCA All-Americans, announced Wednesday.

Traina has been named an All-American in all four seasons at the Capstone, three times to the First Team. This is McCleney's second-straight All-American honor though it is her first appearance on the First Team, earning Second Team honors last season. McCleney also becomes just the seventh player in Alabama history to earn NFCA All-American and Capital One Academic All-American honors in the same season.

McCleney backed up a stellar freshman campaign with an even more impressive sophomore season in 2014, leading the SEC with a .451 batting average and .567 on-base percentage while also slugging .692 thanks to nine home runs, 11 doubles and three triples. She went 34-37 in stolen bases and held a perfect fielding percentage in regular season play as the team's every-day starter in center field. She was a Top 10 finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year, First Team Academic All-American, First Team All-SEC and First Team All-South Region.

Traina, the 2014 SEC Pitcher of the Year, was a dominant force in the circle for Alabama. She went 23-3 overall with a 2.02 ERA and only suffered one loss in conference play. With a win over Auburn in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals, she became just the third player in Alabama history and ninth in SEC history to earn 100 career wins, joining former Tide greats Shelly Laird (115, 1999-02) and Kelsi Dunne (113, 2008-11) in the prestigious club. She was a Top 10 finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year, First Team All-SEC, First Team All-South Region and also earned national weekly honors from both the NFCA and ASA/USA Softball after going 2-0 on the road against the then-top ranked Florida Gators.

This brings Alabama's total NFCA All-American awards to 45, with all but one of them coming under Head Coach Patrick Murphy.
