Longtime Robertson County educator sues sheriff

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Robertson County Schools administrator who was accused of failing to report suspected child sex abuse has filed a federal lawsuit against the Robertson County Sheriff's Office.

The Tennessean reports that longtime educator Donna Rae Dorris accused the sheriff's office in the suit of pursuing a "reckless and malicious course of prosecution" that resulted in her arrest on charges of failing to report alleged abuse. The suit also accused the sheriff's office of pursuing groundless accusations to avoid negative publicity for failing to seek charges.

The charges against Dorris and two other educators were dismissed after prosecutors told a judge that they weren't sure, after analyzing the evidence, that any crimes had occurred.

The Robertson County Sheriff's Office issued a statement denying the educator's allegations.
