Posted: Updated:

A woman was killed Saturday in a single-car accident that left sent her granddaughter to the hospital.

It happened on Ashland City Highway shortly after 6 p.m. Metro police say the woman, driving a pickup truck, veered off the road, causing the truck to overturn and roll over several times before landing on the side of railroad tracks. The woman died on the scene. Her granddaughter was taken to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the grandmother had just picked up the girl from California. Late Saturday, police were still trying to contact her next of kin. Chaplains were on hand to assist at the hospital, police say.

Metro police say both the driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts. They are investigating the cause of the accident.
