Bulger's Beat: Sylvan Park students win 4-H quiz competition

Posted: Updated:

Some of the top young minds in the state gathered Friday in Cookeville for the 4-H Clover Bowl, a competition packed with lots of questions about agriculture and life on the farm.

While students from rural counties who live that life usually win, there was one finalist team from Davidson County: the city slickers from Sylvan Park.

"They buy their food at grocery stores, but it's good to know where it's actually coming from. So they've learned a lot about those types of things," said Sylvan Park teacher Amy Eberle.

And when it comes to fourth grade questions, the fivesome at Sylvan Park Elementary has all the answers.

The 9 and 10-year-olds study for about an hour, three days a week, and the hard work paid off.

Sylvan Park Elementary finished first in this year's Clover Bowl. White House Heritage Elementary from Robertson County finished second.

Eleven teams from 11 Middle Tennessee counties made it to the finals.
