Judge Joe Brown to face incumbent in Shelby County DA race

Posted: Updated:

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Former TV judge Joe Brown will face incumbent Amy Weirich for the position of Shelby County district attorney in August's general election.

Brown, a Democrat, and Weirich, a Republican, ran unopposed in primary elections on Tuesday.

Voters will decide on Aug. 7 whether they want Brown or Weirich to be the top prosecutor in Tennessee's largest county.

The 66-year-old Brown was a Criminal Court judge in Memphis before stepping down to dedicate himself to the TV show. The show is no longer on the air.

He was arrested and briefly jailed in March after a Shelby County Juvenile Court magistrate found him in contempt of court during a contentious hearing. He is appealing the charges.
