PITTSBORO, N.C. -

The Chatham County 9/11 First Responders Memorial Foundation Corporation invites residents to watch the installation of the donated 9/11 artifact from the World Trade Center tragedy at the memorial site Saturday.

The work will begin at 9 a.m. and will continue until finished.

“Attendees should bring their cameras to take photos, but please stay in the parking lot for the Justice Center where you will have a great view from a safe distance,” said Jody Allen, president of the Memorial Foundation and Goldston firefighter. “Also, remember that you should not look directly at the welding as it can damage your eyes.”

The beam from the World Trade Center is the centerpiece of the Chatham County 9/11 First Responders Memorial, located on US Highway 15/501 just south of the traffic circle in Pittsboro across from the Pittsboro Fire Department.

The memorial will honor all fallen first responders.

The foundation is raising all of the funds for the project through grants and private donations from companies and individuals. You can buy a memorial challenge coin for $15 or make a donation by visiting: https://www.facebook.com/chathamncfirstrespondersmemorial or http://www.ccfrm.org/
