NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The man convicted of killing a Grand Ole Opry legend will be given a psychological exam.

John Brown is serving a sentence for killing "Stringbean" Akeman and his wife in 1973.

Brown made his case for parole last month, but the Tennessee Board of Parole has decided to delay its decision until Brown can undergo an evaluation to determine whether he is a danger to society.

Parole board spokeswoman Melissa McDonald said such exams are sometimes used by board members and shouldn't be seen as either a positive or negative sign for an inmate.

A new hearing will be held in October.
