Aimee Fortney's Cinco de Mayo Recipes

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with these easy recipes. Making homemade tortillas is so easy, you might never buy tortillas again!

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 1/2 to 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3/4 cup to 1 cup water

Mix all ingredients together, then form into a ball. Knead until the ball is a smooth ball. Tear into 9 to 11 balls; golf ball size. Roll them into a ball, then pat in your hands; the "baa baa baa" sound.

After flattening them out with your hands and forming in a circle using a rolling pin, roll out to about 5 inches and then add to a dry skillet that has been preheated. Cook over medium heat for about a minute and a half on each side or until lightly browned.

  • 1 large orange, juiced
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 shot tequila (I use Familia Camarena)
  • 1 shot orange vodka (I use Pinnacle Orange)
  • Kosher salt (about 2 teaspoons on a plate)

Rub a lime wedge over the rim of your glass. Place the kosher salt on a plate, then dip the glass into the salt to coat the edges. Shake all ingredients, except for the salt, in a cocktail shaker or Mason jar, then strain into a salt rimmed glass for "una margarita en las rocs con sal" - a margarita on the rocks with salt.
