What started as a peaceful and relaxing day in Madison Park for Priscilla Hayes and her family turned to panic when gunshots rang out around her children.
"It's awful when you're trying to have something nice and then gunshots," Hayes said. "It's crazy."
Metro police said a 19-year-old was shot multiple times by the park community center near Cumberland Avenue. He ran across a field in the park before police said he collapsed.
"We all ran up there, and that's when I seen him laying there," Hayes said. "People were trying to help him. We were trying to help him."
He was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Two male suspects got away in a silver car, police said.
