Non-profit aims to keep NC public schools strong

Posted: Updated:

Community members and teachers are working to improve public schools in North Carolina.

Saturday afternoon the non-profit group "Public Schools First NC" held a public forum.

Members said their mission is to keep public schools strong and to engage the community to support them. They said the biggest problem facing schools right now is keeping experienced teachers on staff.

"They've made a lot of successes with very little funding," said Chair of Board of Directors with Public Schools First NC Yevonne Brannon. "That can't continue. We've got to look for a way to make sure we pay attention to our teachers who are leaving the profession we've got to stop that bleeding and keep our teachers in the classroom."

Brannon said Public Schools First NC plans to have more forums. To learn more about their efforts, click here.
