DURHAM, N.C. -

An 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with the theft of a Durham police officer’s uniforms, gear and a puppy from a residence April 29.

Christopher Reina, of Broad Street, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, felony larceny of a dog, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of stolen goods, Durham police said.

Police said most of the stolen police gear was recovered but some uniform shirts are still missing.

Reina told Durham police he gave away the puppy to a family in the parking lot of Beauty World in the 1400 block of Avondale Drive, police said.

Durham investigators would like the puppy to be returned. Police said the individuals in possession of the dog are not in trouble for having the animal.

The puppy has been without its prescribed medication for three days, police said.

Durham police are still investigating the burglary.
