FAYETTEVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Cleanup work is now in full swing two days after a deadly tornado touched down in Lincoln County.

Volunteers have gathered in some of the hardest hit areas, and there are also many incredible stories of survival.

The American Red Cross opened an emergency shelter on Tuesday night at the Fayetteville Recreation Center at 1203 Winchester Parkway in Fayetteville.

A box truck has also been set up to provide clean-up items like gloves, buckets and garbage bags at Park City Baptist Church at 2809 Huntsville Highway in Fayetteville.

Two people were killed and seven people were injured in Monday night's storms.

The tornado began near the state line and then slammed the South Lincoln Elementary School in the Lincoln community. The front of the school was torn off, about three-quarters of the building's roof was ripped off and a school bus was tossed into the building.

A popular church in the community was also destroyed by the tornado. The Grace Falls Church and the homes belonging to church founders were wiped out.

Officials say at least 25 structures were destroyed and several others were damaged.

The American Legion has emergency funds for storm victims who are veterans. Veterans have 90 days to apply. Call Greg Dodson at (423) 834-3855 or Bill Harp at (931) 433-1897 to get an application.
