NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Former Vanderbilt football coach James Franklin has left for a new job at Penn State, but his name is surfacing again in court filings from the rape case against four of his former players.

Suspect Brandon Vandenburg's defense team filed an explosive motion in court Tuesday, which, according to The Tennessean, says Franklin at some point before the alleged assault asked the victim - a Vanderbilt student - to get 15 pretty girls together to form a team to assist with recruiting.

After the alleged assault, the filing claims, Franklin and another member of his football staff contacted the victim to tell her they cared about her because she helped with recruiting.

The Tennessean reports Vandenburg's attorneys are also accusing prosecutors of destroying or failing to preserve certain evidence and are asking that the case be dismissed.
