Town hall meeting planned Tuesday for Vietnam veterans

Posted: Updated:

Vietnam veterans and their families will have the opportunity Tuesday to have their questions answered about the medical side effects of Agent Orange.

The chemical was sprayed in the jungles during that conflict to thin the vegetation to allow soldiers to better see the enemy. But it has since been linked to a variety of health problems including cancer and heart disease.

The Tennessee Council of the Vietnam Veterans of America has been hosting a series of town hall meetings across the state to discuss the issue. The council said veterans' children are also presenting with symptoms linked to Agent Orange exposure.

The town hall meeting is planned for Tuesday, April 29, at Parkway Baptist Church, located at 1715 Lee Victory Pkwy. in Smyrna, from 6-9 p.m.

Representatives from the Veterans Administration will be on hand to assist veterans and their families with filing claims related to Agent Orange.
