DURHAM, N.C. -

Durham Public Schools are stepping up to help put extra cash in its teacher’s wallets.

The interim superintendent proposed that every teacher get a $500 bonus for the 2014-15 school year.

The money would come from the district’s current budget proposal, not from the county.

The Board of Education will vote on the move May 12.

The proposed budget also includes $3.6 million in funding for 60 additional teaching positions.
