NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

It's a milestone marathon this year in Nashville, as the St. Jude Country Music Marathon on Saturday will be the 15th annual road race through the streets of Music City.

Organizers kicked things off Thursday with a health and fitness expo at the Music City Center. The free event includes exhibits and interactive displays on the latest in running gear, sports apparel and health and nutritional information.

The health and fitness expo continues Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and marathon participants must visit the expo to pick up their race packet, official number, gear bag and T-shirt.

City leaders say the marathon pumps millions of dollars into the local economy and also helps promote Nashville as a fun and fit city.

"It's about bringing positive attention to Nashville and our brand as Music City. It's about filling our hotel rooms and having thousands of runners carbo-loading at restaurants all over Nashville the night before," said Nashville Mayor Karl Dean.

The St. Jude Country Music Marathon begins Saturday at 7 a.m. For full details on the event, including a course map, road closures and video tours of the course, visit: http://runrocknroll.competitor.com/nashville/event-details.

Channel 4 News will have complete coverage of the St. Jude Country Music Marathon on Saturday beginning at 5 a.m. with Alan Frio and Ian Reitz.
