TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Parishioners at Holy Family Catholic church took part in Good Friday service as authorities investigate a fire that appears to be arson just steps away from the historic church.

Church Cannon, Richard Von Menshengen, said the fire happened Thursday afternoon. What appears to be paper in a coffee can was lit on fire outside the church's front entrance.

The blaze only caused some smoke damage to the outside of the church because someone driving by saw flames and called 9-1-1, according to Von Menshengen.

Tucson firefighters tell us they are actively investigating the case with Tucson police, but they are not releasing much information at this time.

However, Tucson News Now has learned surveillance video has been turned over to police which they are looking over now.

A suspect description has not been released but authorities say if you know something about this incident, call police or 88-crime.
