Toledo announces summer road construction plan

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The city of Toledo is outlining its plans to fix city streets after a brutal winter left many roads in terrible shape.

The city's list includes a lot of water line replacement and road resurfacing work.

Construction barrels are already popping up on Hill Avenue, which the city will resurface from Reynolds Road to Byrne Road.

"I think it's good they're doing it now, but I'll be glad when the cones get out of there and everything and the roads actually paved and we can drive normally," said area resident Bryan Scott.

The city will spend $29.1 million total on road projects this summer.

The city's Administrator for Roadway and Open Space Planning says he knows there are a lot more roads that need to be fixed, but with costs increasing, he says there's only so much the city can do.

"The administration is working with city council to see if additional funding can be directed to have even more miles of street repaired this year," said David Dysard.

Another major project will take place on Dorr Street near the University of Toledo. That project includes widening the road as well as safety improvements.

Dysard says keeping up with the rough streets is a losing battle, but that the city is working hard to catch up.
