Miracle cat shot with arrow has survived

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A veterinarian said it's nothing short of a miracle that a cat survived a horrible attack.

Jane Holt found her pet Simon walking around with an arrow through his head.

"You just can't imagine because the arrow was through his head. It was sticking out of both sides," said Holt.

She found Simon in her Clarksville backyard.

"He was just meowing and the arrow was coming out. He was dirty and bloody," said Holt.

Holt's gut reaction was to make the pain go away.

"I held his head and pulled it out because he couldn't move his head without hitting something," said Holt.

Simon was shot by a hunting arrow as he was running away.

"It had to be somebody strong because of how far it went through his head and intentional because the point was coming out [the front]," said Holt.

"I've seen gunshot wounds in dogs and cats," said Dr. Sarah Bendorf, who treated Simon.

Bendorf said she had never seen anything like this.

"It's a pretty miraculous thing, definitely," said Bendorf.

The arrow only hit soft tissue and missed his skull.

"I think he'll make a full recovery," said Bendorf.

Simon is expected to go home from the hospital on Tuesday, but the story is far from over. There's already been another report of another cat shot by a bow and arrow in this area.

The second case was discovered after Family Pet Hospital posted Simon's story on its Facebook page.

Holt believes Simon was shot while wandering close to her house in the Beachaven neighborhood near Madison Street. The other cat was discovered hurt about five miles away near Cumberland Drive.

"He had an arrow in his head, but they can't catch him because he's a stray," said Holt.

Holt is hoping someone comes forward with answers.

"I think it's someone who needs to be prosecuted," said Holt.

Holt filed a police report about Simon's shooting. Police are still investigating the incident.
