HENDERSONVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Hendersonville family says their SUV is missing after a man who called himself a mobile mechanic drove away with it.

Tiffany and Jonathan Wright have five kids, including a newborn. When their 1999 Chevy Tahoe needed transmission work, they turned to Craigslist to find a repairman.

The person they contacted showed up and said his name was Brian.

"My husband gave him the keys to the truck plus $450," Tiffany Wright said.

Twelve days later, they still don't have their truck back.

When she calls and asks for Brian, Tiffany Wright says the man immediately hangs up or the call goes to voicemail.

"Really, I just want to get the car back, just so we can have transportation to get around," Tiffany Wright said.

The Wrights started researching the man on Craigslist and found other consumers complained of having problems with the same man.

"He has not returned our vehicle. This is a scam. And we have had other people contact us that have been victims as well," Tiffany Wright said.

Hendersonville police are also trying to track down the mobile mechanic. The Wrights filed a police report and want to pursue criminal charges.

The man who picked up their Tahoe is described as a short, thin white man with a shaved head. He has a scorpion tattoo on the left side of his neck and was driving an Oldsmobile Bravado.

"We're out of pocket a lot of money. It hurts," Tiffany Wright said.

Tiffany Wright knows the steps she should have taken, such as getting references first, getting a receipt and finding the location where the work will be done, but she's sharing her difficult experience, warning others to beware of mobile mechanics posting on Craigslist.
