Health officials want fluoride back in Columbia water

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBIA, TN (WSMV) -

It's been less than a year since a Middle Tennessee city took fluoride out of its drinking water, and now health officials are urging them to put it back in.

The Maury County Board of Health is asking the Columbia Power and Water System to start using the chemical again.

The utility board voted last September to stop buying fluoride, in part to save money.

But health experts tells our news partners at The Daily Herald that they are getting concerned about oral health in low-income kids who might not have other sources of fluoride.
