DALTON, GA (WRCB) -
A man was seriously injured after his SUV was hit by an approaching train in Dalton.
The train traveling at a low rate of speed, struck the SUV at a railroad crossing on Tyler Street and pushed it down the tracks to the next crossing at Long Street.
Witnesses told Dalton police that the crossing gates and flashing lights were on at the Tyler Street intersection. Police report that 68-year-old Rogelio Nieto-Martinez's SUV apparently was entering the intersection as the gates were coming down and then stopped for several seconds before lurching forward again and being hit in the passenger side by the approaching train.
Nieto-Martinez is at Erlanger, his current condition is unknown.
