Police: Man shot during possible home invasion on west side

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Police say a shooting on Tucson's west side may have happened during a home invasion.

Police got the call just after 6 p.m. on Sunday at a home near West St. Mary's and North Silverbell roads, in the 1400 block of West St. Clair.

When authorities arrived on scene, they found evidence of a shooting, but not much more.

At least, not at first. That's because nobody was at the house, but about 10 minutes later, they learned that a shooting victim had just been dropped off at St. Mary's Hospital nearby.

It was learned that the victim was part of the original incident and was reportedly shot when several people broke into the house on St. Clair.

Details surrounding the home invasion are still limited, but authorities confirm it was drug-related as an undisclosed amount of narcotics were later found by authorities inside the home.

"What they discovered was the individual dropped off at the hospital reported he was a visitor at the home at the time of the home invasion.  From his statement and from other people, witnesses and neighbors at the scene, it appears that three vehicles arrive at the home, at least four to six people got out, several armed with guns, they made entry into the home."

From that point, shots were exchanged between the people in the house and the home invaders.

The man who was wounded is expected to survive.

The investigation is ongoing.
