MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The swollen rivers in the River Region are starting to recede. Many rivers in the WSFA 12 News viewing area flooded this week after heavy rains Sunday night and Monday morning.

Dozier Road, also known as Emerald Mountain Toll Road, in Montgomery County reopened at noon Friday. It had been closed since Monday night when the Tallapoosa River covered the roadway.

To get the latest river levels and forecasts, visit the National Weather Service website or this story on WSFA.com.

WSFA 12 News Chief Meteorologist Rich Thomas says the kind of flooding our area saw is regular overflow of low lying areas such as pasture lands and some secondary roads. None of the flooding situations forced any kind of significant evacuations.

Flooding caused a section of Macon County Road 30 between CR 40 and CR 9 to collapse Tuesday morning.

Autauga County Emergency Management Agency officials also asked Autaugaville residents along the Alabama River to be aware of the potential for flooding. A voluntary evacuation was issued Monday.

Alabama Power said Tuesday the rain caused lake levels to rise at some of its reservoirs. It will continue to have the spillway gates open at its Weiss, Henry, Logan Martin, Lay, Mitchell and Jordan dams on the Coosa River, and Harris and Martin dams on the Tallapoosa River over the next few days.

For updates about lake conditions and more information about Alabama Power lakes, please visit alabamapower.com or call 1-800-525-3711.

Governor Robert Bentley Monday activated the State Emergency Operations Center to monitor current and possible issues that would result in heavy rain and flash flooding.
