Fire crews fight large fire at Old Hickory home

Posted: Updated:

Nashville firefighters battled a massive blaze at a home in the 3200 block of Lakeshore Drive in Old Hickory Saturday night. The call came in around 7:15 p.m.

The home's owner told firefighters she was smoking earlier, but she put the cigarette out. She heard the smoke detector sound in the home, she saw smoke and was able to escape unharmed. Fire Chief Tomlinson says it would be too early to speculate what caused the fire, but the fire marshal will likely make a determination Monday.

When firefighters arrived, they reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the top of the house. It appears the fire started near the left side of the house, which suffered the most significant damage. The multi-story home had several rooms. Nashville fire officials say the size of the house required them to call for more than a dozen trucks and emergency teams, and use additional equipment to battle the large blaze.

The woman was able to save her cat, and later took it to a veterinary hospital. Neighbors say a dog also escaped unharmed.

Firefighter will be monitoring hot spots under the collapsed roof throughout much of the night.
