Lightning may be to blame for house fire in Oak Hill

Posted: Updated:

An Oak Hill woman barely escaped a two-alarm fire at her home, and weather may be to blame for the fire.

Investigators think a bolt of lightning may have hit the house on the 4900 block of Sewanee Road.

The woman who lives there got up around 1 a.m. Thursday to use the restroom and smelled smoke, so she started looking around the house but didn't see any flames.

When she went outside, she discovered the roof was on fire.

By the time firefighters were able to get to the scene, the blaze was fully involved.

The flames were massive, and the home is heavily damaged, but no one was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but lightning is something officials are considering a strong possibility.
